Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance
Overview
Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private global health partnership founded in 2000 with the goal of increasing access to immunisation in poor countries. It brings together developing country and donor governments, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other private philanthropists. Gavi's model involves pooling demand for vaccines from low-income countries, negotiating lower prices with manufacturers, and providing long-term, predictable funding to support immunisation programs and strengthen health systems. Since its inception, Gavi has helped vaccinate over 1.1 billion children and prevented more than 18.8 million future deaths.
