Founded in 2008 as a spin-out from the University of Tennessee, Genera operates North America's largest integrated non-wood pulp and molded fiber manufacturing facility in Vonore, Tennessee. The company's process covers the entire lifecycle, from partnering with farmers to grow crops to manufacturing the final products, aiming to provide a sustainable alternative to plastic packaging. In 2022, Genera was acquired by private equity firm Ara Partners and has since announced significant investments to expand its production capacity, including acquiring assets from Zume Inc. in 2023.
