Private Export Funding Corporation (PEFCO) is a privately-owned financial institution established in 1970 with the support of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM). Headquartered in New York City, PEFCO's mission is to supplement the financing available for U.S. exports from commercial banks and other lenders. It achieves this by acting as a direct lender and as a secondary market buyer of export loans. A key feature of its operation is that all loans it finances must be protected against nonpayment by a guarantee from EXIM or another U.S. government institution. PEFCO's shareholders are a consortium of commercial banks, industrial companies, and financial services companies.
