Overview

A U.S. government research funding agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that supports transformative, high-risk, high-reward biomedical and health research. Modeled after the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), it was established to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine and health that cannot be readily accomplished through traditional research or commercial activity.
