ARPA-H
Overview
A U.S. government research funding agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that supports transformative, high-risk, high-reward biomedical and health research. Modeled after the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), it was established to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine and health that cannot be readily accomplished through traditional research or commercial activity. ARPA-H is disease-agnostic and funds projects using mechanisms like cooperative agreements and Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreements, rather than providing dilutive capital. It operates as an independent entity within the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
