National Capital Consortium for Pediatric Device Innovation
Overview
The National Capital Consortium for Pediatric Device Innovation (NCC-PDI) is a consortium funded by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to support the development, production, and distribution of pediatric medical devices. Led by the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation at Children's National Hospital and the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, NCC-PDI provides grant funding and mentorship to innovators. It hosts annual "Make Your Medical Device Pitch for Kids!" competitions where winners receive grants to advance their projects. The consortium's mission is to facilitate the commercialization of devices for pediatric patients and bring more pediatric devices to the market. From 2013-2023, NCC-PDI supported 315 projects which collectively raised over $500 million in follow-on funding. In 2023, the lead organization, Children's National, was awarded a new grant to lead a successor consortium, the Alliance for Pediatric Device Innovation (APDI).
