iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence)
Overview
Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) is a flagship initiative of the Indian Ministry of Defence, launched in 2018. It functions as the executive arm of the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO) to foster an ecosystem of innovation and technology development in the Defence and Aerospace sectors. iDEX engages with startups, MSMEs, individual innovators, R&D institutes, and academia, providing them with grants to carry out R&D. The primary funding mechanism is the SPARK (Support for Prototype and Research Kickstart) grant, which provides up to Rs. 1.5 crore (or up to Rs. 10 crore for iDEX Prime) to fund projects. The scheme was approved with a budgetary support of Rs. 498.78 crore for the five-year period from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
