Overview
The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) is the independent, non-partisan statistics, research, and evaluation arm of the U.S. Department of Education. Its mission is to provide scientific evidence to ground education practice and policy. IES funds research and development, conducts large-scale evaluations of federal education programs, collects and analyzes education statistics, and provides resources to support the use of data and research in education. A key initiative is the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which provides grant funding to small businesses for the research and development of commercially viable education technology products.
