Faraday Battery Challenge
Overview
The Faraday Battery Challenge (FBC) is a UK government programme run by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) that invests in the research, innovation, and scale-up of battery technologies. With a total budget of £610 million for the period of 2017-2025, its goal is to make the UK a science superpower for batteries by supporting world-class facilities and innovative businesses in the battery supply chain. The challenge funds projects through several mechanisms, including collaborative research and development grants and an Investor Partnerships Programme, which provides grant funding to SMEs alongside equity funding from venture capital partners. The programme will be succeeded by the 'Battery Innovation Programme' from 2026 onwards.
