The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the U.S. government that regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable. The agency is responsible for implementing and enforcing America's communications laws and regulations. As part of its mandate to close the digital divide, the FCC administers grant and subsidy programs, such as the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) and the Affordable Connectivity Program, to provide funding for the construction and operation of broadband networks in unserved and underserved areas.
