GIGA Foundation
Overview
Giga is a global initiative launched in 2019 by UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with the primary mission to connect every school in the world to the Internet by 2030. While its main function is not investment, it operates a venture fund component that makes strategic investments in companies aligned with its mission, such as the confirmed 2021 seed investment in Opolis. Giga's activities include mapping school connectivity, creating innovative financing models, and supporting governments in procuring connectivity. The initiative has a technology center in Barcelona, Spain, and a connectivity center and headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
