Google for Startups Black Founders Fund Africa

Overview

The Google for Startups Black Founders Fund Africa is a corporate initiative that provides equity-free capital and support to early-stage, Black-founded technology startups across Africa. The program aims to bridge the racial inequality gap in venture capital funding. In addition to non-dilutive cash awards of up to $150,000 per startup, recipients also receive Google Cloud credits, advertising support, and hands-on mentorship from Google experts. The fund has run several cohorts, including a $3M fund for 50 startups in 2021, a $4M fund for 60 startups in 2022, and a $4M fund for 25 startups in 2023. The program targets startups headquartered in various African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, and others.
