Overview
The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is a national research and development agency that plays a central role in Japan's Science, Technology and Innovation Basic Plan. It is a government agency overseen by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). JST promotes science and technology through various funding programs, from strategic basic research to industry-academia collaboration and technology transfer. It runs programs like "START" to create startups from university research and "SUCCESS" to provide capital contributions and support to early-stage companies. JST also manages the 10 trillion yen "Japan University Fund" to support research universities.
