Kyoto University Innovation Capital (Kyoto-iCAP) is a venture capital firm established as a 100%-funded subsidiary of Kyoto University. It invests in university-originated startups, leveraging academic research to build globally competitive deep-tech companies. The firm manages multiple funds, including the "Innovation Kyoto 2016 Fund" (JPY 16.01 billion) and the "Innovation Kyoto 2021 Fund" (JPY 18.14 billion). While initially focused on Kyoto University, its second fund expanded to include investments in startups from other national universities in Japan. The firm is actively involved not just in financing but also in company creation and support from the seed and early stages.
