Overview
The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is one of the 27 institutes and centers of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Its mission is to lead nursing research to solve pressing health challenges and inform practice and policy, with a focus on optimizing health and advancing health equity. NINR supports and conducts clinical and basic research and training, integrating behavioral and biological sciences to create a scientific basis for clinical practice. Its research framework focuses on health equity, social determinants of health, population and community health, prevention and health promotion, and systems and models of care. The institute provides funding through grants, including Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants, to support research and training across the United States.
