SPRIND

SPRIND (Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen) is Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation. It is a state-owned entity tasked with identifying, financing, and supporting radical, high-risk innovations to solve major societal, ecological, and economic challenges. It acts as a government-backed investor to bridge the gap between research and market maturity, often referred to as the 'valley of death'. SPRIND utilizes a variety of funding instruments, including grants, equity investments, convertible loans, and innovation competitions, to support projects with breakthrough potential. When making equity investments, it typically requires that at least 30% of the funding round comes from private co-investors.
