Overview
Stanford Management Company (SMC) is a division of Stanford University established in 1991. It is responsible for managing the university's endowment and other financial assets, known as the Merged Pool, to provide long-term financial support for Stanford's academic mission, including research, faculty, and student financial aid. SMC's investment strategy is equity-oriented with a long-term horizon, investing across asset classes such as private equity, real assets, public equities, and absolute return strategies, primarily through hiring external asset managers.
