Overview
The State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) is a federal program administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. It provides nearly $10 billion to states, the District of Columbia, territories, and Tribal governments to support small businesses and entrepreneurship. These jurisdictions use the funds to create tailored programs that offer funding through equity/venture capital, loan participation, loan guarantees, and other credit support mechanisms, with the goal of catalyzing private investment. The program was first established in 2010 and was reauthorized and expanded as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
