New Zealand Government

The New Zealand Government is a sovereign entity and not a traditional investment fund. It engages in a wide range of financial activities through various Crown entities and departments. These activities include direct commercial investments in state-owned enterprises, management of a sovereign wealth fund (New Zealand Superannuation Fund), venture capital investments via New Zealand Growth Capital Partners (NZGCP), and the provision of grants, funding, and historical settlements. For example, the 1998 "capitalization" of Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation was part of a NZ$170 million Treaty of Waitangi settlement, a form of historical redress from the Crown. The government also provides various grants for community organizations, primary industries, and business development.
