Comps (plus 50k more companies)

Caplight now features the most comprehensive and accurate set of 'comparables' for every VC-backed private company. Comps can be used to quickly understand the space a company operates in, who the other key players are, how a given company is positioned, and more.

We've taken our time in building this feature to get it right -- too often other data platforms have the wrong set of comparables for a given target company. We built out a comps model and iterated on it for months, eventually landing a best-in-class, battle-tested solution fit for institutional investors.

The new dataset is available on platform company pages and via our new Comps API.

Comps fall into 3 categories:

• Pure Play Comps: companies that are close/direct competitors of a target company and operate a similar scale.
• Incumbents: the companies with a strong foothold in the space a target company operates in, typically later-stage or public.
• Challengers: the up-and-comers in a space looking to disrupt incumbents. These are typically earlier-stage startups with a novel product, technology, or business model.

In addition to the new Comps dataset, we've expanded our coverage of VC-backed companies from 60,000 to now over 105,000, spanning pre-seed to pre-IPO.
