The Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA) is an agency within the U.S. Department of State that handles U.S. foreign policy and diplomatic relations with the nations of the Near East and North Africa. Its mission is to lead U.S. foreign policy in the region through diplomacy, advocacy, and assistance to advance the interests, safety, and economic prosperity of the American people. The Bureau's activities include providing grants and other forms of assistance to organizations to promote democratic values, end conflict, and counter extremist ideologies.
